It’s really weird living apart, because neither of us has actually ever lived alone â€" we started dating when he was a freshman and I was a sophomore, and we moved in together not too long after. But! Adam being in California means that I needed to move, so I’ve moved out of the suburbs (where we’d been living since we got married) back to a cozy little one-bedroom apartment near Central Square in Cambridge, just a quick walk from MIT. I was walking home from the Star Market behind Random Hall a few weeks ago, wearing my favorite sundress (purchased junior year on Newbury Street), listening to my summer music playlist from college, and I realized that I could have been wearing exactly the same outfit and listening to the same music in the same spot almost a decade ago. And it hit me that, although I live in the same place (and, apparently, wear the same clothes and listen to the same music…), there’s been so much that’s happened in my life in those ten years. Where the business plan is for a start up this section should set out what the goals and objectives of the business would be again making sure that they are specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-limited. Furthermore this chapter should summarise the proposed product mix to be offered and the proposed customer segment or groups to whom it would be offered. The product mix must be presented in terms of its benefit to the proposed custom er segments (Evans, 2010). Market Demand This chapter essentially details the results of the market audit or market research that should be carried out. The result of the market research presents the platform in which the markets can be defined; that is divided into segments, the target market is identified and the product offering is positioned (Barnett, 1988). The first step thus is researching the market and business environment (Barnett, 1988). One way of determining market size is by adding the turnover of potential competitors (Evans, 2010). This can be done using a PESTLE analysis. A PESTLE analysis gives an overview of how key drivers such as the population, economic, socio-economic, technological, legal and environmental factors affect the market size and capability (Kotler and Keller, 2012)). For example, if a start-up plans to begin the manufacturing and sales of a new smart phone in the UK, the population and the percentage of the population that uses a smart phone gives an estimate of the market size of smartphones. The population can be further broken down into age and sex segments to further narrow down the target in terms of the age brackets and sex of the market this will inform the positioning of the product and the identification of the target market (Hooley et al, 2012). As can be expected a larger market size would be preferred (Kotler and Keller, 2012). The economic and socio-economic factors of the business environment or the market gives insight into the purchasing power of the market again this should inform the target market and the positioning of the product. For example, if the economy is generally bad, consumers may not be willing to make high end purchases. Similarly, if the gross domestic product of a country is low, high-end products may not be suitable for the market. The technological, legal and environmental factors also affect the capability of the market to make a purchase or how the market now makes a purchase. The attractiveness of an industry may be analysed and discovered by carrying out a Porters 5 forces analysis which essentially determines the profitability of the industry as determined by the 5 sources of competitive pressure (Grant, 2015), Porters 5 forces is diagrammatically represented below in Fig 1. Threat of substitute products or services The price customers are willing to pay for a product depends in part on the availability of substitute products (Gran, 2015). In other words, if there are no substitutes of the product or service one offer, customers may be inclined to pay a little more e.g cigarettes and gasoline. In addition the extent to which substitutes depress prices and profits depends on the likelihood of the buyer to switch between alternative products or services (Grant, 2015). For example, if customers are likely to switch fro m sugar to honey, then the prices and profits of sugar will fall in order to attract more customers. Threat of Entry If an industry earns a capital in excess of its cost of capital, it will act as a magnet to firms outside the business (Grant 2015). Put simply, if there are no restrictions on new entrants into the industry the rate of profit will fall towards the competitive level (Grant, 2015). In other words the more competitive the industry, the less profitable it is. Thus it will be worthy to check if there are barriers to entry in that industry such as high capital requirements, product differentiation, economies of scale, governmental and legal barriers etc. The more of these there are the less competitive and the more profitable the industry would be. Bargaining powers of suppliers and buyers This refers to whether the buyers are price sensitive or not and these would depend on a number of factors (Grant, 2015). For example in the car manufacturing and sales industry, it importance of a car usually outweighs its cost. Some cars are differentiated as luxury cars thus they are sold at a premium e.g Jaguar Land Rovers Land Rover. Car manufacturers may have to be insensitive to price in a bid to get the important car parts they require in the manufacturing process, finally car manufacturers today are in intense competition with each other thus they put pressure on their suppliers to reduce prices. The same is the case for supplier bargaining power, except the roles are reversed and the firms in the industry are the buyers and the producers of their inputs are the suppliers. Rivalry between firms would depend on the number and size of the rivals and whether they are relatively similar (Grant, 2015). If they are similar they may avoid price wars in favor of collusive pricing strategies. Also the extent to which the products are differentiated determines the intensity of competition more differentiation means less competition and price cuts whilst the opposite is the case (Grant, 2015). Fig.1 (Porter, 2008) Having identified the intensity of competition in the industry and the target, the next step would be to identify a suitable strategy of value offering to the customers. In simple terms this could be either through product differentiation or price differentiation (Grant, 2015). Product differentiation strategy offers the consumers a product which benefits the consumer in a way no other product does whilst differentiation or cost leadership offers a price value which is below that offered by other suppliers or producers in the market (Grant, 2015). An example of a company with a cost leadership strategy is Primark. Financials and Forecasts There are a number of financial forecasts that could be created for the purposes of a business plan however the most suitable financial forecast for a start-up is a market driven sales forecast as it does not require the detail that a full financial forecast would require. A full financial forecast is more suitable for an already established business as historical financials of that business would be readily available. It is worthy to note that a market driven sales forecast for a start-up will involve some general estimates which must be justifiable and realistic. Royal Court Theatre Essay Although the title of the play was called Rhinoceros, I did not initially believe it would be about rhinoceroses. Instead I believed that the word rhinoceros was a mere hidden meaning which would be revealed later on in the play and yet to my surprise the play was about rhinoceroses. Even more intriguing was that people were transforming into rhinoceroses. This gave me a wider range of aspects to look at regarding lighting, sound, staging etc To begin with the staging it was in a shape of a simple square and no staging curtains were covering it. The side walls were painted white to keep the staging simple and not to distract the audience from the performers. With the walls painted white there was no need to emphasis the scene change by using added back drops to change location of the scene. The far back wall was made up of joint wooden planks which would slowly fall gradually through the performance. This was first shown when the very first rhinoceros appeared to the performers. A sound which gradually became louder in the background, the performers would look to the side of the stage where smoke would appear, this symbolising where the rhinoceros was charging from, causing a couple of wooden planks to fall off. This was the intended effect of a Rhinoceros charging through the town square, causing the walls to shake. Everytime this happened more and more planks would fall off and by the final scene of the whole performance, the wall had almost completely collapsed. These planks were also never touched or moved, even during the interval. There wasnt obvious interaction between the audience and the actors, apart from when the rhinoceros would charge through the town square. The  rhinoceroses were never seen by the audience until near to the end. What symbolised a rhinoceros charging through the square was a distant but very rapidly approaching sound of the breathing and head log dash of wild animals as well as a trumpeting sound, gradually becoming so loud that the actors cannot be heard. By this time the sounds become extremely loud with rapid sounds of powerful animal galloping very close by. These sounds felt as if some were made by a group of people making the animal trumpeting sounds, however the galloping was probably produced by instruments to get the full effect the play needed. Smoke would also appear where the rhinoceros appears to be running and the performers would stare in horror at that particular point of the stage. To create illusion of the rhinoceros charging, it has to move to various points around the stage or in this case the theatre, where the audience is sitting. This is where the interaction of the audience begins. For the illusion of the rhinoceros charging through the audience, smoke isnt used to show that the rhinoceros is actually within the audience as it does when on stage, but the animal galloping, trumpeting sound increasing with the help of surround sound to emphasis to the audience that the rhinoceros was there with them, and also the performers looking into the audience as if they were the rhinoceros or it was charging through them. There wasnt much colour used through the performance; however there were elements of it used, whether it was clothing or the staging itself. The staging walls were painted white to emphasis that there is not individual. With the walls painted this colour, this also meant that the audience also had to use their imagination to create the scene location. The characters  costumes didnt create much individually, apart from Daisy and Berenger who stood out from the other characters. Daisy wore a bright yellow dress throughout most of the performance. The other female characters wore darker floral dresses, this gives the impression that she has more of a positive attitude compared to the other characters and this choice of colour for her dress was made because of that. MacBeth Attitude Changes Essay In the tragic drama Macbeth, written by William Shakespeare in 1606 during the English Renaissance, the hero, Macbeth, constantly declines in his level of morality until his death at the end of the play. Because of his change of character from good to evil, Macbeths attitude towards other characters, specifically Duncan, Banquo, Lady Macbeth, and the witches, is significantly affected. The first of the four characters is Duncan. Since Macbeth interacts with Duncan only a minimal amount before Duncans death,Macbeths attitude towards him changes very rapidly. Before Macbeth hears the witches first prophecy, he is very close to Duncan, and would never even think of doing something against him. When the thought of murdering Duncan crosses his mind immediately after he finds that he has just been named Thane of Cawdor, he cannot believe he yield to that suggestion / Whose horrid image doth unfix my hair / And make my seated heart knock at my ribs (I, iii, 133-35). In scene 5 of act 1, however, his vaulting ambition is starting to take over, but partly because of his wifes persuasion. He agrees that they must catch the nearest way (17), and kill Duncan that night. On the other hand, as the time for murder comes nearer, he beginsgiving himself reasons not to murder Duncan: First, as I am his kinsman and his subject, Strong both against the deed; then, as his host, Who sho uld against his murderer shut the door, Not bear the knife myself. (I, vii, 13-16)When Lady Macbeth enters, though, she uses her cunning rhetoric and pursuasion techniques to convince Macbeth that this is, beyond the shadow of a doubt, the right thing to do. He is so horrified by this act that for a moment he forgets where he is or whom he is with. We learn from this murder that Macbeth truly had faith in the king and was very loyal, but under the forces of his wifes persuasion and his own vaulting ambition, he is put in the evil frame of mind for just long enough to kill Duncan. This murder does permanently alter him from his moral state of mind, however, and he soon does not feel much remorse for murdering Duncan. The Second of the four characters towards whom Macbeths attitude changes is Banquo. Before he murders Duncan, Macbeth is a very close friend to Banquo, and they are almost always together. After the murder, however, Macbeth senses suspicion on Banquos part. He realizes that Banquos wisdom that doth guide his valour / To act in safety (52-53) will cause Banquo to want to turn Macbeth in for his crime. Macbeth knows he must also get rid of Banquo since, according to the prophecy, the throne will pass to Banquos sons otherwise. However, a more important reason that Macbeth kills Banquo is because of Banquos suspicion of him, and what Banquo will do to him once he finds out for sure that Macbeth has commited the murder of Duncan. One can see that Macbeth becomes extremely harsh if he wants his way. He will go to horrid extremes just so that he does not have to live his kingship in fear, but instead to be safely thus. (III, i, 49)Lady Macbeth, the third character, interacts with Macbeth a considerable amount, and influences him greatly. He and his wife as a pair are dangerous because his ambition combined with her bloodiness can cause fatal situations. In Macbeths letter to his wife, he calls her my dearest partner of greatness (I, v, 8), and later, when he is talking to her in person, he calls her My dearest love (I, v, 54b). Shakespeare shows their close relationship until they have started falling into a state of near-despair after the murder of Banquo and Macduffs wife and son. At this point, they have started to seperate a great deal. In act five, scene five, Macbeth hears the cry of women and not even noticing that it is a womans cry, let alone that of his own wife, asks What is that noise? (7b). He feels so little towards her that when he is informed that she has just died, he remarks that She should have died hereafter (17 ), meaning that she would have died anyway. His loss of feeling towards his wife most likely iscaused by his distraction and present state of mind. Had his mind been calm and relaxed, not distracted by anything, he probably would have reacted to this news with more feeling. However, his whole personality has changed, and perhaps death does not faze him any more because he has committed five murders since the beginning of the play. The way Macbeth acts toward the three witches changes significantly as the play progresses. In act one, scene five, Macbethtells his wife in his letter to her that the witches have more in them than mortal knowledge. (2), and he puts great faith in theirprophecies; after all, of the witches three so-called prophecies, Two truths are told (I, iii, 126b). He depends on the witches for a long time, even after he murders Banquo. In act 3, scene 4, when he remarks that I am in blood / Steppd in so far that, should I wade no more, (136-37), he knows that he must consult the witches again because More shall they speak; (134), and he is bent to know (134) what he should do and what his future holds. He then sees the three apparitions that the witchs have conjured up especially to torture him. This causes him to become enraged at the witches and damn himself in the ironic phrase in which he damns all those that trust them, (IV, i, 139, them meaning the witches. Macbeths change in attitude tow ards the witches shows that his nature is to befriend those who bring him good news, but he separates from them once he finds that even though he trusted them, what they said was not in his favor. He supposedly befriended the witches simply because he thought they could tell him his future.
